| Okay, BlackHog wanted me to explain how I made his signature. I want to stress that I don't do this often and it'll take a lot of begging to get me to do this.
Okay. Griping over, onto the tutorial!
Final Result: Necessary Stock Photos:Bubble Stock Photo: "Fractured Break Away" Stock Photo:Step 1:- Spoiler:
Open up Photoshop (I have CS4, all images will be from there.) and go to file / new. Make a new canvas 5.5 inches. width and 2 inches high. Step 2:- Spoiler:
Fill in the whole thing with pure black. Step 3:- Spoiler:
Open up your Sonic Render and cut him out with the pen tool, or the polygonal lasso tool. (Note, the example image I did REALLY quickly. You should zoom in and be much more precise for the real thing. When you're done cutting him out, right click your path and click make selection. Then copy and paste. You should have a second layer with your sonic cutout. Step 4:- Spoiler:
Copy Paste him into your black canvas. Go to edit: free transform. Edit him to about 59% width and height. Move him to the right. Step 5:- Spoiler:
Time to burn this sucker. Click the burn tool (looks like a hand) and choose a small brush, probably about 12 pixels. Set the exposure to like 70%. Change the settings to Highlights, and burn the outside of Sonic. Note that you will need to do this multiple times. You will notice after awhile that you can't really burn him much anymore. At that point, switch the settings to Shadows, and you will notice the effect will be much stronger now. Try switching to a smaller brush to make sure you don't go too far inside Sonic. To get more detailed with his hands, keep the edges of the fingers unburnt to give it a more "glow" type look. For more detail, use the Midtones setting to burn those "in between" parts. I recommend that for his 2nd hand. Use your own discretion on how dark certain parts will be. After doing all of that, I got this: (Note that I accidentally merged the green coloring with the burned Sonic... ignore the green!) Step 6:- Spoiler:
Okay, time to make the diamond. You can either search google images for an already made one, or if you want to go hardcore you can use this tutorial to make one yourself: http://www.rnel.net/tutorial/Photoshop/13858 (Obviously color it green) Try to re-size it using the Free Transform option to around where mine is. I don't remember the exact ratio, but it's not that hard. Move the layer so it's underneath Sonic. Place it in an area similar to mine where it looks like he's holding it. Now right click the diamond layer's preview window and select "Select Pixels". Select Sonic's layer. Use the eraser tool to erase parts of Sonic's farthest finger (the one on the end) so that it truly looks like he's holding it. Now right click the Diamond Layer, and click "Blending Options". Give it an Inner and Outer glow. Give the outer glow the size of about 5px and the Inner glow... I forget the exact # but make it so it goes about halfway inside the diamond. Use green colors for both of the glows. I made the outer glow much deeper green than the lighter glow, to give it a better shine. The inner glow's green should be much brighter. You should have this now: (The green glow should be just around the diamond... I accidentally merged the green glow with Sonic before and I can't remove it.) Step 7:- Spoiler:
Now for the green glow. Create a new layer. Grab a 45px brush and set it's color to hex #: bfe3ad. Set it's opacity to 25%. Brush around sonic's face and a little around the gem. Now grab the eraser tool and set it to brush (grab one with transparent edges). Set the opacity to 75% and erase the edges of your green glow. For extra detail, make sure the center of Sonic's fingers have no glow, and that the edges of them have more of it. Use a small brush (3 - 5 px) and set it to 5 - 10% opacity and touch around the rim of his fingers. Make sure you get some of his curled ones too. They're pretty close to the gem. You can also add a little green glow to his second hand, the parts that aren't too shaded, because that's where the light is coming from. You should have this now: (It's the same... I accidentally combined the layers remember?. But now it should look exactly like this.) Step 8:- Spoiler:
Create a new layer (Position it right above the black background), and fill the whole thing with black, blue, it doesn't really matter what color. Select: Filters / Render / Lens Flare. Create two orbs (the two right ones) at 75% brightness, and then one at 25%. (105mm Prime) It should look like this at the preview window (They doesn't have to be placed exactly correct): Now for the fun part. Go to Filters / Sketch / Chrome. Select Ok. Right click the brush / pencil tool and select the Color Replacement Tool. Color the layer with this hex shade of blue: #0f122c. This coolness should form: Set the layer to Linear Dodge (Add). Go to Edit / Transform / Flip Horizontal. Chances are the layer is a bit too bright, so use the burn tool set to Shadows and burn the perimeter of Sonic so his shadowing makes sense. Now click the mask button, right below the layers panel. Click on the white box next to your layer (that's the mask side). Right click the paintbucket and select the Gradient Tool. Click the preview gradient on the top left and set the gradient to: Now click from the bottom right to top left: It should look like this: Step 9:- Spoiler:
That was hard, right? Don't worry, that was the hardest part. It all gets easier now. Open up the bubbles stock image in Photoshop. Choose this part: Copy and paste it into your signature, right above your weird water layer you just did. Resize it using the Free Transform Tool so it completely fits inside the signature. Make sure you're selecting the stock image layer and now select the Mask icon again. Select the Gradient tool, and go from the left to the right: Okay, now right click the burn tool, and select the Dodge tool. Set it to midtones and at 100% exposure. Choose a medium brush, probably about 12-20 pixels. (Make sure the edges have transparent edges!) Select the Bubble Stock Image's mask layer, like you did before. Dodge the areas inside, around, and above the gem on the stock image. This makes the gem look like it's lighting up the background too. It should now look like this: Step 10:- Spoiler:
Open up that Break Away stock photo inside Photoshop now. Select this part: (Make sure you didn't select the black bottom part) Copy, and paste it into your signature. Use the Free Transform tool again to re-size it to fit the height and width of your sig. Now, select this portion of the stock photo: Delete it. Select the blur tool (looks like a teardrop) and blur the edges of the deleted part. Select the quick blending options tab, and select: Soft Light. Now the sig should look like this: /[spoiler] Step 11:[spoiler] Whew! Almost done. Create a new, blank document. 2.5 by 2.5 inches. Right click the line tool (near the bottom of the tool bar), and select the custom shape tool. Select the circle shape: Make a ring shape by dragging the mouse cursor. Make it look like this: Now click edit / define brush preset. You've made a new brush! Name it : "Ring" or something. Now go back to your signature. Step 12:- Spoiler:
Select a dark-ish blue and green for your 2 colors. Select Window / Brushes. You're going to be assaulted by a window with tons of options. I'll go through them. Set each setting as follows: Step 13:Now that you have your new handy - dandy brush, let's use it! Create a new layer. Set it to above Sonic. Start from the bottom left of your sig, and work your way up so it looks like a wave. You should get this: Make another mask on that layer again, and select it. Select the gradient tool, and select the gradient preview tab. Set it from JUST black to white. Go from the left of your sig, to the right. (make sure your mask was selected!) You should get this: Step 14:- Spoiler:
Practically done, this step is important though because it gives your sig more detail and depth. Make a new Layer, Below Sonic but above everything else. Do exactly what you did in the last step, but try to make sure these new rings don't follow the exact path of the other ones. Set the blending settings to: Vivid Light. Step 15:- Spoiler:
Second to last step! Time for the Text. I used a font called: "Factor". I used the hex #: 2b4297 It's pretty wide, so I used the Free Transform tool after typing "BlackHog" (12 font), to make it a little less wide. That's up to you though. Right click the layer and select blending options. Select the Bevel and Emboss option, and Stroke. Make sure the color on Stroke is pure black. You can give it a little more detail by dodging or burning the text too if you want. Move the text to the bottom left corner. You should have this: Step 16:- Spoiler:
Last Step! Woo!! Okay, I personally love the glossy part. It doesn't always work with all signatures, but it most certainly gives the signature more depth and a little more "kick" to it. Create a new layer, and move it to the very top. Right click the Rectangular Select tool, and select the Ellipse one. Zoom out a bit, and select about an inch diagonally from your signature, and stretch it out to about this: Go to Select / Modify / Contract by like 3-5 pixels. Whichever looks best for you. Now click the Gradient Tool. (I just <3 that tool, cant you tell?) Make your Foreground color pure white. Set your gradient to White to transparent. Select from the top of your sig, to the bottom of your ellipse. (Maybe a little less.) Set the whole layer's opacity to 65%. You're done! It should look like this:
Bleaahhhhhh...
now my fingers huuuuurt and it's really late at night. I hope you're happy, BlackKnight.

Set the sig I made you... as your sig?
That'd be a good start. | |

| This is relevant to my interests. And puts my work to shame. I actually didn't know signature making could be this complex. I actually really wanna give the diamond thing a go. So yeah, good job. | |

| nice tutorial! i've never made a (picture) sig that complex (flash doesn't count... i love my animated ones). i usually just do three layers: a liquefied gradient (that's how i do all my trippy backgrounds, if you've seen my team picture or my old sig.) a character (usually a texture hack of mine) then my name (usually a white (or matching color) one and a black one as a shadow) like so: | |
